The Alamance-Burlington School System is actively working on proposed redistricting. This could have direct impact on many local properties that could see their school districts change in the future.
Let’s look at a recent example:
My client was considering a home in the Town & Country Estates area of Burlington NC.
If you look at the current school district map, it’s in the Cummings HS district:
If you look at the proposed future school district map, it may shift to the Eastern HS district in the near future:
If school district is important to you, take into consideration the proposed redistricting changes before making a purchasing decision.
Verify with the School Board, Always!
Always verify with the school board directly when you have identified a potential property and ask about the proposed redistricting and timeline.
How To Contact ABSS To Verify Schools:
ABSS Map Office:
“Are you moving to Alamance County? Do you live in Alamance County, but are moving to a new neighborhood? Need to know what school your child will be attending?
Then you can call our “Map Office” at 336-570-6541. You will need to know your street address before you call in order to find out the school that is in your zone.

How To Look Up School Districts and Proposed School Disticts on Alamane County’s GIS Database:
Go to the GIS Website (and accept the disclaimer): https://apps.alamance-nc.com/CountyGISMap/default.aspx
Select the “Layers” tab
Scroll down to the bottom and look for the “School Districts” section.
Check the layer that you want to see. Options include School Districts ES (Elementary), School Districts MS (Middle), School Districts HS (High), and Future High School Districts.
Pro Tip: It’s easier to see the districts if you turn off the “CitiesBig” layer in the “Base Map” section at the top of the layers panel.
